Description
At least two (2) ongoing and one (1) fixed term (up to 30 June 2026) Solicitor Level 2 (VPS Grade 3) positions are available in the Debt Management Branch, Corporate Services Division, Melbourne.
Solicitor Level 2 within the Debt Management Branch provide specialist qualitative and authoritative advice and opinions on debt recovery and insolvency matters by undertaking recovery litigation matters including bankruptcy proceedings, unfair preference claims, recovery proceedings and enforcement and wind-up applications. You will be managing cases from preparation, submission, and negotiating outcomes.
This role offers the opportunity to develop and refine your advocacy skills with opportunities to appear as solicitor advocate in the Supreme Court of Victoria, Magistrates' Court of Victoria, and the Federal Court of Australia.
Reporting to a Team Leader, you will be able to;
manage your own litigation and advice case-load, with supportive legal supervision.
undertake legal research, and interpret and apply legislation in a wide variety of matters.
prepare, conduct and appear as solicitor advocate in moderately complex cases for litigation at the Supreme Court of Victoria, Magistrates' Court of Victoria, and the Federal Court of Australia.
communicate directly with internal stakeholders, customers and their legal representatives.
provide timely legal advice to the Commissioner and his delegates.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will have;
- been admitted as an Australian Lawyer, with
- a minimum of 1 years' post-admission experience as an Australian lawyer in the public or private sector in relation to corporations and insolvency law.
- sound legal research and analytical skills and the ability to correctly identify key legal issues independently.
- demonstrated ability to provide good quality written work in a timely manner.
- excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills to work with internal and external stakeholders, including self-represented litigants and undertake appearances in Court.
- strong computer skills and demonstrated ability to work productively in a hybrid legal environment.
