Ready to become part of a great hybrid working environment at up to $100k + Super per annum?
Onyx Legal is a specialist Corporate & Commercial Law Practice revisiting our growth strategy to prioritise flexibility and lifestyle for talented lawyers. We recognise that many emerging professionals seek autonomy without the pressure of establishing their own practice from scratch. We're now focusing on building a high-performing team with the right fit.
We offer a collaborative environment supported by experienced paralegal and virtual assistant resources, allowing you to concentrate on substantive legal work.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an independent Commercial Lawyer with 3+ years post-admission experience to join us on a permanent basis. This role offers genuine flexibility for lawyers who value work-life integration, and wish to avoid the demands of sole practice ownership.
You will operate with significant autonomy while benefiting from our established client base, systems, and infrastructure.
What You Will Do
Primary Responsibilities:
Handle matters within our core service areas:
- Contracts
- Employment law (for employers)
- Trade marks
- Business structures
- Buying or selling businesses
- Leases
- Maintain rigorous compliance with firm rules and procedures.
- Complete full induction and review the operations manual thoroughly.
- Share innovations for approval prior to implementation, explaining the rationale behind proposed changes.
Performance Expectations (KPIs):
Bill and recover revenue equivalent to 3 × your salary plus superannuation.
For example: earning $100,000 plus super requires billing $336,000 annually.
At a charge-out rate of $350 per hour, this translates to approximately 4–5 billable hours per day across 44 working weeks.
We will offer a salary against billings each quarter based on performance.
A real team player who likes to work in a good culture.
Salary and Incentive Structure
Competitive base salary reviewed quarterly against billing performance.
Performance incentive: up to 20% of annual billings exceeding the base target, paid at the commencement of the subsequent financial year.
Example: A lawyer targeting $100,000 plus superannuation must deliver $336,000 in billings; any excess will generate a bonus.
Note: Days will extend beyond core billable hours due to file administration responsibilities. Paralegal and VA support will assist, but efficient time management remains essential.
Our Core Values
We seek individuals who embody these principles:
- Trust: Autonomy is granted based on confidence in your judgement.
- Respect: Treat colleagues, staff, and clients with dignity.
- Client focus: Deliver exceptional service to those we represent.
- Accountability: Own your conduct and the results you produce.
- Integrity: Fulfil commitments reliably and punctually.
- Solution-oriented thinking: Propose remedies alongside queries.
- Compliance: Follow branding guidelines and firm policies consistently.
Why Join Onyx Legal?
- Flexibility that prioritises lifestyle without sacrificing career progression.
- Established work pipeline, no need to build a practice from nothing.
- Support infrastructure (paralegal, VA) freeing you for substantive legal work.
- Quarterly salary reviews tied to performance.
- Transparent incentive model rewarding high performers.
- Collaborative culture valuing innovation when approved appropriately.
